- Some of my favorite writers and books over the years have been comics and graphic novels that are collections of multiple comics or converted from a written novel: the xmen were the first book I ever bought, but I grew to love other independent books too like lone wolf and cub, frank miller's dark knight, mcfarlane, lee, silvestri, portacio who all grew into their own companies and now lee is running DC comics, I also like the star wars books from dark horse, udon entertainment, as well as some smaller publishers. When I first saw Todd Mcfarlane's spiderman, and Jim Lee in the xmen books, and Marc Silvestri had been drawing xmen for many years before breaking off into independent publishers. I also liked the books from Michael Turner of Aspen Comics, Rick Remender, and Top Cow books like Magadalena. And the graphic novel of Paolo Coehlo's the alchemist, and books from J.R. Tolkien, and Eastman and Laird's Ninja Turtles. Chris Claremont is probably my favorite writer for the Uncanny Xmen. I loved the xmen annual: God Loves, Man Kills. But the first artist I really loved was Arthur Adams and his mini series on Longshot and Dazzler from the xmen. Comcs are storyboards for Filmmaking, they show how the story and each scene should be shot including dialouge, sound effects and lighting, backround setting, costumes, hero, heroines, and villains, and camera angles to be shot in person with real people or with animated drawings like with Macross, Robotech, and Thundercats, Voltron, Silverhawks, the incredibles, disney princess stories, dreamworks, the simpsons, and south park, and the legend of korra. I just found this guide to christian and catholic comics by rich lee bruce. Many new artists are found on deviant art.com
